Well HELLO DECEMBER!! (I can’t believe 2013 has reached its final month — time is a flyin’!)
I thought I’d kick off December with some cute mini caramel & chocolate apples; after all, it is the holiday season and a couple of things fly this time of year:
- Eating sweets and treats any time of day is an accepted practice
- Giving tasty and pretty edible gifts is welcomed (and sometimes expected!)
To be honest, I haven’t really gotten caramel apples off my brain since mentioning it’s one of the ways I love to enjoy them! But the thing with caramel, candy and chocolate dipped apples is they’re usually ginormous (this normally leads me to conflicting feelings of euphoria and guilt when I eat one…)
Welllll — I came across some mini-apples at the grocery store (something I have been seeing more frequently this year, is it just me?) and thought mini caramel & chocolate apples would be a cute and fun treat to make!
Pretty straight forward — ya dip the apples and then ya decorate them with your favorite toppings!
I made the following combinations:
- Dark chocolate with:
- sea salt
- rainbow sprinkles
- crushed peppermints
- chopped walnuts
- white chocolate drizzle
- Caramel with:
- dark & white chocolate drizzle
- white chocolate drizzle & chopped walnuts
- dark chocolate drizzle
- plain (because straight-up caramel is delicious enough — and a classic!)
Once the apples are set, you could wrap them in some cellophane and tie them with a cute ribbon to gift to family & friends — OR you could just eat em’!
The mini-apples covered in different toppings turned out beautifully and really eye-catching. They’re the perfect sized treat to please your sweet tooth without feeling guilty (let me be honest, I obviously couldn’t eat just one and a few mini apples covered in caramel in chocolate is just as bad as the jumbo sized ones you usually come across — but hey, I tricked myself: mini apples = guiltless pleasure)
What’s your favorite type of caramel, chocolate or candy apple?
