Peppermint Spiked Hot Chocolate


  • (1) quart whole milk
  • (¼) cup cocoa powder
  • (3) oz dark chocolate, chopped (I used 77%, you can use milk or semi-sweet chocolate if you wish)
  • () cup peppermint schnapps –OR– (you can add peppermint extract 1 tsp at a time, to taste)
  • Marshmallows, optional


  1. In a medium pot pour in milk and heat over medium-high heat
  2. Heat through just until milk almost comes to a boil (about 6 or 7 minutes)
  3. Turn heat to low
  4. Add cocoa powder to pot with milk and whisk until well combined
  5. Next, add chopped chocolate and whisk until all the chocolate has melted
  6. Remove hot chocolate from the heat and stir in the peppermint schnapps
  7. Serve immediately and top with marshmallows if you desire — you can also store the hot chocolate in the refrigerator and heat up as needed
